FloorHeat STEP features a flexible, homogeneous, low-voltage polymer heating element. The plastic is electrically conductive, and the resistance in the material generates heat. The element is self-regulating which means that when the ambient temperature rises, the electrical resistance increases and the consumption of electricity decreases. For this reason, the element cannot overheat, making FloorHeat STEP an ideal choice for heating hardwood floors. The versatile system is also commonly used for roof deicing applications. The heating element can be nailed or stapled through to facilitate quick and easy installation, and is polypropylene fused during fabrication to achieve water proofing and protect it from alkaline or salt damage.
FloorHeat STEP features a strong, thin, semi-conductive polyethylene heating element that is 3/64-inch (1.2 mm) thick. The flexible floor heating element is available in 9- and 12-inch wide rolls and can be cut to the desired length and field-wired on site. The rugged heating element can also be used to retrofit existing floors with radiant heat. If you can access the floor joists from below, simply staple the element up between the floor joists and then apply Batt insulation to direct all of the heat upwards. Using the FloorHeat STEP system there's no need to tear up existing floors to add luxurious warmth to your home.
EASY TO INSTALL
FloorHeat is an excellent choice for installation in new construction as well as renovation projects because of the thinness of the material and its ability to be easily customized. The heating element can be cut to fit unique, odd shapes to accomodate any area in the home. Installers can also nail directly through the low-voltage heating element, facilitating the installation process. The heating elements can be cut to size and wired on site. The system is suitable for installation under a variety of surfaces and can be installed throughout the house or only in areas where extra heating is required. (This is the most common application among homeowners.)

The formula to calculate the maximum element length per fuse (5A) in the terminal board is 24V x 5A / XX W/ft. The formula for the maximum total element length (8A) with two jumped fuses is 24V x 8A / XX W/ft.

The advanced circuitry of the unit regulates the entire system, making the individual control boxes the source for monitoring the power and output to the heating element to ensure safe, reliable performance.
